Business Shanghai Airports Hits Annual Records

Shanghai airports reported a record high annual flight, passenger and cargo total. Till the last day of 1999, the number of flights stood at 139, 000, passengers, 14.74 million, and freight, 769,000 tons, a rise of 8.57, 7.46 and 34.39 percent respectively over 1998.

For the past year, Shanghai airports have taken steps to improve management and service. Hongqiao Airport changed the old flight arrival/departure screen with one that displays flight information more clearly. Three hundred new-style luggage carts are available free of charge. A customer satisfaction system has been put in place to ensure every passenger is taken care of.

Hongqiao Airport, together with the newly-built Pudong Airport, received certificates of honor from the Municipal Government for their excellent performance.

All sections of the airports have been working to eliminate fire hazards. Both airports have passed safety appraisal by China' s General Administration of Civil Aviation (CAAC) and gained approval from American Federal Aviation Bureau.

Till now, Hongqiao Airport has flights to 97 world cities, and 42 aviation companies from home and overseas have opened routes to Hongqiao Airport.
