China Wen Jiabao on Construction

Chinese Vice Premier Wen Jiabao has stressed that the construction industry should seize current opportunities, deepen reforms and strive for better work performance.

Addressing a recent national meeting on construction, Wen said that the country's policy of expanding domestic demand and speeding up infrastructure construction creates opportunities for the whole industry.

Wen noted that first of all, the industry should ably manage the housing construction projects in urban areas and contribute to housing reform.

Second, the industry should put more emphasis on construction quality, which is of paramount significance since it relates directly to people's lives and property.

Third, it is essential to continue the reforms, and thereby straighten out the construction market. More efforts must be made to waylay corruption and embezzlement in the construction sector, Wen said.

The vice premier also asked the construction industry to strengthen internal reforms and management and constantly improve their building quality, economic performance and competitiveness.
