Education HK Chief Executive Meets Outstanding HK Scholars

Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, met with five outstanding Hong Kong scholars on December 15 and pledged to push ahead with education reform and innovation and technology in Hong Kong.

The Chief Executive noted that Membership of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is the highest honor to be attained in sciences and technology in China. He was pleased that the five scholars from Hong Kong had been awarded the Membership this year.

"We are pushing ahead with education reform and innovation and technology and we hope to arouse the interest and support of residents, in particular the younger generation, towards science and research. Members and Foreign Members of the Academy in Hong Kong will serve as encouragement for local young people to develop their interest and abilities in academic studies and research," Tung said.

The five outstanding scholars are from the University of Hong Kong, professor Cheng Yiu-chung, professor Cheung Yau-kai, professor So Kwok-fai, professor of Anatomy, professor H Kung, and Professor Henry N.C. Wong from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

At present, three scholars in Hong Kong are already either Member or Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
