Education Beijing to Trial Implement Independent College Entrance Examination

According to source from the Fourth Session of the Eighth Beijing Municipal Party Committee, beginning from 2000, Beijing will enroll students in spring and fall on a trial basis and will begin to trial implement independent college entrance examination in 2001, it will experiment with recommending senior middle school graduates to enter universities or colleges through comprehensive quality appraisal.

Related personages commented that this move taken by Beijing is aimed at learning from Shanghai. On the one hand, this move as an exploration is encouraged by the State; on the other hand, it helps escape the blame of Beijing for setting too low passing marks for admission. With the introduction of independent entrance examination, no comparison can be made with other regions in terms of passing marks.
