The Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Regional People's Political Consultative Conference on December 13.

The assembly was chaired by Pagbalha Geleg Namgyai, vice- chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and chairman of the Tibet Regional Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

The CPPCC Tibet Regional Committee was founded on December 20, 1959. The committee has 484 members.

In the past four decades, the advisory body has contributed remarkably to safeguarding social and political stability in Tibet and promoting local economic growth.
