Friday, December 10, 1999, updated at 09:47(GMT+8) Culture Chinaware Capital Presents Priceless Bowl to Honor Macao's Return China has transported an exceptionally big crafted bowl to Macao to greet Macao's return to the motherland. The super-quality, exquisite bowl, ten times the size of an ordinary one, is inferred to as the "bowl of the century." It has a diameter of 100.1999 centimeters, with a height of 50 centimeters. This bowl of art, made of old clay preserved for centuries and special water tapped from a well sunk centuries ago, has been completed with 99 typical traditional technological processes, and fired under a heat of 1,300 degrees Celsius. The glittering and transparent bowl, with a vivid and distinct image of the magnificent Great Wall on it painted with great care by a famous master craftsman named Sun Lisheng, produces a melodious sound only with a flip of finger. The gifted bowl is made by the Tangshan Huamei Pottery Ltd., based in the prestigious city of Tangshan, reputed nationwide as the "chinaware capital of north China." A Tangshan city government official said both chinaware and the Great Wall symbolize the great motherland. The Macao Special Regional Administrative (SAR) Government has signed a special document in recognition of the gifted bowl. Along with another 8,000 pieces of chinaware that have also been transported to Macao, the bowl will be placed at the official residence of the Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government. Meanwhile, the government of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous is also reported to have presented a gemstone "picture" threaded or wired together by 73,800 gemstones as a special gift to the Macao SAR government. It shows Guangxi's beautiful landscape with a background that a wild geese flock hovering home, indicating Macao's return to the motherland after over a century of foreign colonial rule.
