China Smooth Aftermath of Shipwreck in Full Swing

While rescuers continued to search for bodies of victims of the Dashun shipwreck, which sank on November 24, measures have been taken to handle various other problems arising from the tragic accident near the coastal city of Yantai, east China's Shandong Province.

So far, relatives of over 40 victims killed in the accident have signed compensation agreements.

Shandong Province has organized 2,000 people to receive family members and relatives of the victims. Local transport, public security and civil affairs departments have assisted in body claim and cremation. To date, 224 of the 1,400 family members of the victims have left Yantai for home after completing aftermath matters.

Since the shipwreck happened, The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, State Council and the Central Military Commission have shown great concern to the accident. Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and other central government leaders have given directives with regard to rescue operations, urging rescuers to make utmost efforts to recover the missing. Shandong Province has organized an all-out rescue operation over the past few days.

Family members and relatives are satisfied with the handling of the matter.

The widow of Liu Yuqing presented the receptionists of Yantai with a silk banner, expressing her gratitude to the local government before going home with the ashes of her husband.

The widow of another victim, Zhu Youfa, said: "We are satisfied with all what the local government has done for us."
