China Auditing Issues of Macao SAR Discussed

The Executive Council of the future Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) held a meeting on December 2 to discuss the function and organization of the Commission of Audit of the SAR.

Executive Council members discussed the power, organization and staff employment of the commission. However, some details need more discussions, according to Tong Chi Kin, spokesman for the Executive Council.

The Commission of Audit shall be responsible for checking the accounts of the SAR government, ensuring that the SAR's policies are well carried out and making sure that human and fiscal resources are effectively used, he said.

Tong Chi Kin expressed the belief that the Commission of Audit will be an organ of high efficiency with simple structure.

Like the Commission against Corruption and the customs, the Commission of Audit will be a new organ of the SAR. It shall function independently and its director shall be accountable to the chief executive of the SAR, according the Macao Basic Law.
