In the women's competition,of China set a world record and won two gold medals in the women's 69-kilogram category.

Sun broke the record in the clean-and-jerk with a lift of 143 kilograms, half a kilo better than the previous mark held by her compatriot Lin Weining. Sun also hoisted 247.5 kilograms to claim the gold in the total weight division.

Bulgaria's Milena Trendafilova won two silver medals in the snatch and total with one bronze medal in the clean-and-jerk.
