Friday, November 26, 1999, updated at 16:18(GMT+8) Business Finished Oil Smuggle Runs Wild With the rise in domestic oil prices, there has been an upward trend in the smuggle of finished oil. Statistics show that 300 cases of finished oil smuggle were discovered by the Guangdong Customs House this October. The smuggled oil uncovered weighed 8516.4 tons, valued at about 18.979 million yuan, with their respective increases being 42.9 percent, 20.8 percent, and 31percent over September. There are 250 oil tankers and 47 vehicles which have been detained, with their respective increases standing at 24.4 percent and four times over September. For various reasons, there has been a gradual shortage of supply in Guangdong's finished oil market since August, this situation was deteriorating in October. Under the situation of the short supply of oil and the big gap between domestic and international oil prices, there has emerged another wave of finished oil smuggle. At present, working in close cooperation with the local government and related departments, the Guangdong Customs departments have gone all out to crack down on finished oil smuggling activities.
