Culture Beijing Holds Seminar To Commemorate Leading Poet and Educator

A seminar in commemoration of the 100th birthday of the Chinese patriot, poet and scholar, Wen Yiduo (1899-1946) was held on November 22 at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the seminar. Present were also members from non-Communist parties, and representatives from the Ministry of Education and a number of prestigious universities.

Born in 1899 in Xishui, Hubei Province, Wen devoted his whole life to democracy and patriotism in China. He wrote many influential poems and articles and is remembered as a poet and educator.

At the seminar, participants recalled Wen's contributions to the development of modern vernacular poetry and education. (Xinhua)
