World Putin to Run for Russian Presidency

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin reaffirmed his intention to run for the nation's presidency in 2000 on November 12.

"As for presidential candidacy, I was asked the question on my first day of work in the government and I said 'Yes'. As you know, I do not go back on my words," he said in an interview with journalists in Moscow.

However, he denied media reports on the formation of election headquarters.

"That is not true. There can be no election headquarters within the government," Putin said.
