World At Least 374 confirmed killed in new quake in Turkey

Turkish Health Ministry announced early November 14 that 362 people have been confirmed killed and more than 2,900 others injured in a 7.2-magnitude quake that hit the northwestern province of Bolu on November 12.

Turkey faced a bitter reality of having to cope with a second major earthquake disaster in three months, but this time both rescue and relief efforts were well organized and the state functioned well, winning praise from the public.

After working through the night with floodlights, rescue teams combed the rubble in northwestern Turkey for survivors.

The quake was centered in Duzce town, near the area wrecked by a powerful tremblor on August 17, which left at least 17,000 people dead.

Turkish Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit has promised a full response from the government and military. "The state is there with all its means," he said. (Xinhua)
