Business Henan Province Reaps Grain Harvest

Despite setbacks caused by several natural disasters, Henan Province, one of China's major grain producers, has reaped a bumper harvest of autumn grain.

Total output for the season is 19.351 billion kilograms, the highest ever for this inland province in central China and 1.1 percent more than last autumn's record harvest.

Henan has been suffering from drought, plant diseases and insect infestations this year. The province has made considerable efforts to use high-tech measures, including techniques to produce artificial rain, to ensure a successful harvest.

The landlocked province is a granary of wheat, the staple food for most Chinese. (Xinhua)
