World Chilean Military Chief to Make Historic Bolivia Visit

Chilean Army Commander in Chief General Ricardo Izurieta will pay a historic visit to Bolivia to attend the Conference on Armies of the Americas scheduled on November 15 to 20, local press said on November 9.

He will be the first Chilean military chief to visit Bolivia in 24 years, since retired General, former Chilean President Augusto Pinochet was there in February, 1975, to sign the Charana Declaration with General Hugo Banzer, now Bolivian President.

Local press said, the visit will thaw relations between the two countries, which have suspended diplomatic ties since 1978.
