Education Tibet University Enrols Six Graduate Students

Six graduate students were recently enrolled in Tibet University, becoming the school's first group of graduate students.

The six students are majoring in traditional Tibetan subjects including Tibetan language, literature and history.

The six are all teachers from Tibet University and Xigaze Teacher's Training College.

Speaking at their entry ceremony, President of Tibet University Liu Qinghui said their enrollment is a breakthrough for higher education in the Tibet Autonomous Region.

Graduate programs on Tibetan language and history will help to better preserve and promote Tibetan culture, he added.

Earlier, four graduate students entered the Tibetan Medical Science University to study traditional Tibetan medicines.

The two universities in Tibet also plan to enrol more graduate students next year, sources here said.

With four universities, the Tibet Autonomous Region aims to train 1,000 graduate students and more than 100 doctors in the next decade, the sources added.
