Education China Opens First Zheng School

¡¡ The first private music school offering lessons for playing the zheng, a Chinese zither with 25 strings, opened on October 24 in east China's Fujian Province.

¡¡ The school is named after its founder and president Chen Aijuan, a well-known zheng player who has studied the instrument since 1995.

¡¡ The zheng is a traditional Chinese stringed instrument which was used to play many ancient Chinese musical compositions.

¡¡ In 1995, Chen established a zheng training center in Fuzhou, enrolling about 200 students including zheng-lovers from the United States, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. (Xinhua)
