During the 2014 Beijing International Auto Show, a large number of domestic and foreign car companies launched new products of new energy vehicles. However, at present, although the new energy vehicle market is considered to be enjoying a favorable position and new energy vehicles are being "highly praised", substantial profits generated from the business still won't be seen within a short period of time.

The new favourite of the auto show

New energy vehicles still keep people crazy, and have become the biggest highlight of this year's Beijing auto show. Data shows that in this year's Beijing Auto Show, 79 new new energy vehicles were launched by domestic and foreign car companies, accounting for 70 percent of all the 118 new vehicles launched at the show together.

The fact that pure electric cars and hybrid vehicles are now facing difficulties landing in the Chinese market has not dampened the enthusiasm of foreign and domestic car companies. High-end brands, joint venture brands and Chinese homegrown brands all have high expectations for the future of new energy vehicles. In contrast with Tesla's high-pricing strategy, in order to attract Chinese consumers, many global car manufacturers have launched technically and economically more competitive new energy vehicles in large scale at the auto show in Beijing.

In terms of high-end brands, BMW is the only automobile manufacturer that has launched an independent new energy vehicle brand BMWi. Volkswagen's up! electric cars came on the market during the Beijing auto show, and will be followed by Golf electric and two plug-in hybrid car models Audi A3 e-tron and Golf GTE in the Chinese market. President of Toyota's China Division said the main direction of Toyota's new energy development will still be hybrid cars.
