The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday congratulated Georgia on its smooth presidential election and vowed to drive new progress in China-Georgia ties.
China enjoys friendship with Georgia, spokeswoman Hua Chunying told a daily news briefing, extending congratulations to the Georgian side on Sunday's election.
China is willing to seek stronger bilateral ties with Georgia in a bid to further benefit the peoples of both countries, Hua said.
Media reported that the presidential election was won with over 60 percent of the vote by the ruling coalition Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia candidate Giorgi Margvelashvili, a former deputy prime minister and education minister.
