MANILA, Oct. 29 -- The Philippine embassy to China is coordinating with the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau on immediate repatriation of the three Filipinos who were injured in Monday's car crash at the Tiananmen Square in Beijing, a foreign ministry official said here Tuesday.

The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez confirmed that one Filipina was killed and three other Filipinos were injured in the car crash.

Embassy staff on Tuesday morning visited the three injured Filipinos, a father and his two daughters, in Beijing's Tongren Hospital, the spokesman said, adding that they are in stable condition.

Unfortunately, the mother was among the fatalities. She was brought to Beijing Hospital for treatment but eventually succumbed to her injuries, he said.

"We are keeping the identities of the victims confidential in honor of their wish for privacy at this difficult time. Our embassy has assured them of all appropriate assistance, particularly in their immediate repatriation and in the repatriation of the remains of their loved one," he said.

A jeep crashed into a crowd of people and caught fire in front of the Tiananmen rostrum in downtown Beijing Monday noon, killing five people and injuring 38 others.
