China willing to promote bilateral relations with Bulgaria: senior official

SOFIA, Oct. 23 -- China is willing to further promote the development of the Sino-Bulgarian relations comprehensively for the benefit of the two peoples, a visiting Chinese senior official said on Tuesday.

During a meeting with Chairman of the Bulgarian National Assembly Mihail Mikov, Du Qinglin, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), highlighted the deep traditional friendship between China and Bulgaria.

Du said that Bulgaria, the second country in the world to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, has been a good friend and partner of China.

In recent years, the two countries have maintained frequent high-level visits and achieved markable results in economic and trade cooperation and agricultural cooperation, Du said, adding that the two countries have also kept good communication and coordination in international and regional affairs.

Du introduced the current economic and social development in China. He said, China is now paying efforts to create an upgraded economy by deepening reforms, accelerating the transformation of the pattern of economic development to enhance the quality and effeciency of the economic development.

Du stressed that China's development needs the world and the world's prosperity also needs China. Du said, China's initiative to build a "Silk Road Economic Belt" is of important strategic meaning.

China sincerely welcomes active participation of companies from different countries in the process of China's reform and opening-up, sharing the opportunities and fruits of China's progress and prosperity, he said.

Stengthening forgein exchanges, promoting understanding and friendship between the Chinese people and people of other countries, are important tasks of the CPPCC, Du said.

The CPPCC is willing to strengthen the friendly cooperation with Bulgarian parliament and other relevant organizations in order to promote bilateral relations, he said.

Mikov spoke highly of the relations between Bulgaria and China, noting that next year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and China.

Mikov said the visit of the CPPCC delegation was a good signal for the further development of bilateral relations of the two countries and Bulgaria was confident to accelerate this development.

Mikov said there was huge potential for the cooperation between Bulgaria and China, and Bulgaria was willing to deepen the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade and economy, agriculture and tourism and make joint efforts to promote the cooperation between China and Central, Eastern Europe.

Du, who led the CPPCC delegation and visited Bulgaria during Oct. 22-23, also met with Deputy Parliament Chair Maya Manolova on Tuesday.
