BEIJING, Sept. 5 -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to strengthen law enforcement cooperation with other member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in order to ensure regional peace and stability.
Xi made the remarks in a congratulatory letter addressed to a meeting for law and justice ministers of SCO member states that opened Thursday.
"The rule of law is a key guarantee for a country's development, and strengthening exchanges and cooperation in the fields of law and justice is the common wish of SCO member states," Xi said in the letter.
He wrote that "China is willing to cooperate with other SCO member states in law enforcement and administration in pushing forward the rule of law, ensuring regional peace and stability and boosting the development and prosperity of all member states."
According to the Chinese president, SCO member states have been expanding their cooperation scope in politics, the economy, security, culture and other aspects since the founding of the organization, winning support from the international society.
Xi said that China has been sticking to the rule of law and committing itself in scientific legislation, strict law enforcement, righteous justice and the promotion of law abidance among all citizens.
He stressed that Thursday's meeting for law and justice ministers, the first of its kind, is a significant measure to enhance exchanges among justice departments of the SCO member states.
At Thursday's opening ceremony for the meeting, Meng Jianzhu, chief of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, proposed mutual respect and trust in law enforcement cooperation among SCO member states.
Calling for more understanding and consensus, Meng urged SCO member states to strengthen information sharing and communication among law enforcement departments at various levels and share experiences to jointly boost judicial competency.
Meng also stressed the need for more efforts in cracking down on transnational crimes.
