Chinese foreign minister meets Malaysian counterpart

BEIJING, Aug. 28 -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Malaysian counterpart Anifah Aman in Beijing on Wednesday.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers hailed the current situation of bilateral ties and pledged to further advance the strategic partnership between the two countries.

They agreed to set new targets of economic cooperation for the next five years, boost the construction of Qinzhou industrial park in China and Kuantan industrial park in Malaysia and seek cooperation on railway, aerospace and science and technology.

Anifah is in Beijing to attend a special China-ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting on Thursday to mark the 10th anniversary of the formation of the China-ASEAN strategic partnership.

The meeting will focus on development and deepening the China-ASEAN relationship, Wang said as he met with the Malaysian foreign minister.

Anifah said the cooperation with China is the most fruitful and extensive for ASEAN and ASEAN members are willing to discuss how to deepen their practical cooperation.

ASEAN, or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
