BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday called on parties concerned to increase mutual trust in an effort to promote progress on the Iranian nuclear issue.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks at a daily news briefing.
Iran and the P5+1 group (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) started expert-level nuclear talks in Turkey's Istanbul on Monday.
The meeting is set to discuss a revised proposal that asks Iran to suspend its enrichment of 20 percent uranium and disable the underground Fordow facility in exchange for limited sanctions relief.
"The meeting has increased mutual understanding among parties concerned and is helpful," said Hong.
He called on all relevant parties to step up diplomatic efforts, seek common ground and iron out differences, so as to push forward the negotiation in making progress at an early date.
