KUNMING, May 5 -- Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Monday detained two suspects for drug trafficking after seizing 23.5 kg of heroin in their car.

The drug was found during a routine China-Myanmar cross-border check at 4:50 a.m. on Monday. The two people in the car were detained by police in Lincang City.

The suspects claimed that a foreigner asked them to take the drug across the border and would be paid 3,000 yuan (480.6 U.S. dollars) as a reward.

Police did not disclose the nationality of the foreigner.

The case is under further investigation.
