HAIKOU, Jan. 6 -- Five police inspectors in south China's Haikou City, Hainan Province have been sacked after illegal gambling dens were raided in their districts, the municipal public security bureau said on Monday.
On January 3, the Haikou public security bureau raided several illegal gambling dens in districts overseen by Datong, Haixiu, Bailong, Zhongjie and two provincial-level police stations.
Police seized 109 suspects, 88 illegal gambling devices and more than 40,000 yuan (about 6,515 U.S.dollars).
The municipal police discipline watchdog said that an initial investigation showed that the five police inspectors sacked were responsible for the malpractice. The watchdog said they will also report the case to the provincial public security bureau for further investigation.
