URUMQI, Nov. 24 -- No casualties have been reported after an earthquake hit northwest China's Xinjiang on Sunday morning, according to the local government.
At 7:30 a.m. (Beijing Time), a 5.6-magnitude earthquake jolted Qiemo county of Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter, with a depth of 10 km, was uninhabited at 36.8 degrees north latitude and 86.7 degrees east longitude, the region's earthquake monitoring station said.
People in the county, most in sleep at the time, were unaffected by the earthquake, local residents told Xinhua.
