QINGDAO, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The eighth German Center, a platform for small and medium-sized German companies to venture into international markets, has been launched in the eastern city of Qingdao in Shandong Province.

Construction of the center broke ground on Tuesday afternoon in the Sino-Germany eco-park in the Qingdao Economic Technological Development Zone. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, according to an official with the zone administration committee.

The Qingdao center is the third of its kind in China after Beijing and Shanghai, and the eighth in the world. It is expected to be a landmark building in the eco-park with an area of 75,800 square meters and an investment of 670 million yuan (109 million U.S. dollars), according to the official.

The center will offer German enterprises office leases, consultancy services and accommodation as well as conference, entertainment, and dining facilities.

About 70 programs to be located in the eco-park have been under discussion since the beginning of this year, including 26 programs funded by German capital.

The Sino-Germany eco-park, a pilot project between the two governments in the area of energy saving and environmental protection, was launched in December 2011.

In addition to China, the German Center has a presence in Singapore, India, Indonesia, Mexico and Russia.
