KUNMING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Border police in southwest China's Yunnan Province have busted a drug trafficking gang, confiscating over 174 kg of heroin and detaining seven drug dealers, including three Burmese.

Two of the dealers were caught in August 2012 after local residents informed police of their illegal activity, according to sources from the public security and border defense team of the Dai-Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of Dehong.

Border police in Dehong caught another five drug traffickers who belonged to the same gang as the previous two dealers on May 30.

Local police said the bust was the biggest seen in the last decade.

People convicted of trafficking more than 50 grams of heroin can face the death sentence, according to China's penal code.

Yunnan, which borders the notorious "Golden Triangle" of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand, is at the forefront of China's anti-drug efforts.
