Chinese women’s self-libration consciousness started to awake in 1950s just after the founding of the new China. The new notion “free love and marriage” brought strong impact on traditional marriage mode which had ruled China for thousands of years. Women began to get real respect and recognition as an equal part in marriage.

“Liberty, love! These two I need. For my love I will sacrifice life. For liberty I will sacrifice my love.” Hungarian poet Sandor Petofi’s poem became the creed of love of young Chinese in those days. Let’s focus on the photos of marriage in 1950s and feel the innocent and enthusiast love in those days.
