According to statistics of the China Consumers' Association, complaints about failed plastic surgeries have skyrocketed with an annual average number of 200,000 during the 10 years since plastic surgery became popular in China.
The international Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery had investigated the plastic surgeons and operations in the top 25 countries and found that there are more than 3.4 million plastic surgeries in China between 2009 and 2010, with 1.8 million of surgical operations and 1.6 million of non-surgical operations.
However, driving by high profits, various non-qualified hospitals and clinics, illegal operations and unqualified products appear one after another in the plastic surgery industry.
Why is the cosmetic surgery still popular with such a high risk? According to a survey from the Social Investigation Center of the China Youth Daily, nearly 72 percent of respondents said the main reason is that people usually judge others with their appearance.
About 50 percent of respondents believe that people can change their life and realize their dreams if they become more beautiful and more than 38 percent of respondents think that the cosmetic surgery advertisements are highly attractive.
