GULF OF ADEN, January 13 (ChinaMil) --The guided-missile frigate "Yancheng" of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) sent officers to the HDMS Esbern Snare combat support ship, the command ship of the Denmark-Norway joint taskforce, around 09:00 on January 10, local time, to participate in the tactical consultation meeting on the escort mission of transporting Syria's chemical weapons.
Senior Captain Li Xiaodong, deputy commander of the PLAN's escort taskforce, and his party totaling four took the ship-borne helicopter to the HDMS Esbern Snare combat support ship to attend the tactical consultation meeting at the invitation of Commodore Torben Mikkelsen, commander of the Demark-Norway joint taskforce.
Captain Kovalvag, deputy commander of the Demark-Norway joint taskforce, Commander Per Rostad, captain of the Norwegian frigate KNM Helge Ingstad, and Commander Henrik Holck Rasmussen, captain of the Danish frigate HDMS Esbern Snare, Captain Pashklov, commander of Russia's Eastern Mediterranean joint command group, and various staff members attended the meeting hosted by Commodore Mikkelsen.
During the meeting, Commodore Mikkelsen introduced the related tactical details of the first tactical operation planning meeting, while all parties carried out consultation concerning the liaison, intelligence exchange, security regulations, response to unexpected situations and so on. All parties also exchanged opinions concerning such issues as information sharing, joint drills and so on.
Commodore Mikkelsen welcomed the officers dispatched by the warship of PLAN. He thought that this coordination meeting was very productive with each party making efforts to materialize the consensus achieved in Moscow. He expressed that all parties make in-depth discussions on various details of the escort mission, which has laid down a solid foundation for the successful accomplishment of the escort tasks.
Li Xiaodong expressed that this coordination meeting showed the active attitude of all parties for the accomplishment of the escort mission. The warship of the PLAN will continue to strengthen pragmatic cooperation related to the mission, actively participate, and take initiative moves to rigorously implement related resolutions made by the United Nations and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) so as to ensure the security and success for the following escort missions.
This is the second tactical operation planning consultation meeting held by all parties for this mission. The previous one was held in the waters near the Limassol Port of Cyprus on January 6, 2014.
