6th China-Germany defense strategic consultation held

BEIJING, November 8 (ChinaMil) -- The 6th round of defense strategic consultation between the Chinese and German militaries was held on November 7, 2013 in Beijing.

Lt. Gen. Wang Guanzhong, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), and Lt. Gen. Peter Schelzig, the visiting deputy inspector-general of the Federal Defense Forces of Germany, co-chaired the consultation.

The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views and reached broad consensus on issues of common concern such as international and regional strategic security situation, and exchanges and cooperation between the two militaries.

Wang Guanzhong said that China and Germany are committed to pushing forward the development of the bilateral strategic partnership in an all-around way, as evidenced by close high-level contacts, increasingly enhanced mutual political trust and fruitful results from bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Against the backdrop, the relations between the two militaries have made great strides in recent years, as evidenced by smoothly operated mechanism exchanges and increasingly deepened pragmatic cooperation in professional fields.

The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with the German side to push forward the development of the military-to-military relations in a more pragmatic direction.

Schelzig said that Germany and China share friendship, and the relations between the two militaries are developing toward right direction, as evidenced by frequent high-level reciprocal visits. The German side attaches importance to developing friendly relations with the Chinese military, and is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in such fields as naval escort, joint naval exercise and military medicine, so as to constantly push forward the relations between the two countries and the two militaries.

Established in 2002, the defense strategic consultation mechanism between Chinese and German militaries is an important platform of communication and exchanges between the two militaries, and it has played an important role in enhancing mutual understanding and trust and promoting friendly cooperation.
