PLAN's visiting taskforce arrives in Papeete

PAPEETE, September 22, (ChinaMil) –The taskforce of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) on the tour of visiting three South American countries berthed in Papeete, capital of the French Polynesia, on the morning of September 20, 2013. The taskforce is scheduled to stay for two days to replenish such materials as staple and non-staple foods and to take a brief rest.

The guided missile destroyer "Lanzhou" and the guided missile frigate "Liuzhou" of the PLAN were guided by the frigate "Prairial (F731)" of French Navy to sail into the port of Papeete at 10:00, local time, on September 20. Wu Dong, head and consul of the Consulate of the People's Republic of China in Papeete, representatives of the Chinese-funded institutions, overseas Chinese and Chinese nationals, officials of local government, representatives of the French Navy, and others were at the port to welcome Chinese taskforce.

During the welcoming ceremony, Li Xiaoyan, commander of the taskforce and deputy chief of staff of the South China Sea Fleet under the PLAN, made a short briefing to the local media on related informations of the taskforce's berth in Papeete. During the stay, leaders of the taskforce will call on Commodore Anne Cullère, joint commander of the French armed forces in French Polynesia and commander of the French maritime forces in the Pacific.

The guided missile frigate "Liuzhou" and the frigate "Prairial (F731)" will open to each other's navy personnel for visits.

It is learned that this is the third time for the PLAN's warships to berth in Papeete. The visiting taskforce of PLAN will leave Papeete for Valparaiso of Chili at 10:30, local time, on September 22.
