Army aviation force becomes new-type main battle force of PLA Army

BEIJING, August 28 (ChinaMil) -- "Assault 2013", the actual-troop exercise and tactics seminar of the army aviation force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), was recently concluded in Guangdong province of south China. This is the biggest tactical drill activity held by the PLA army aviation force ever since its establishment.

In recent years, the PLA army aviation force has undergone rapid innovation and development in terms of the system, equipment, tactics, personnel and so on. It has been actively built up as the main battle force of the PLA Army.

The PLA army aviation force was established in 1986. The Central Military Commission (CMC) decided to change the Army Aviation Bureau under the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) of the PLA, which took charge of the construction of the PLA army aviation units, into the Army Aviation Department under the GSH of the PLA in 2003.

The conversion of army aviation regiments into army aviation brigades has been going underway in recent years. As a result, the Lanzhou Military Area Command (MAC), the Guangzhou MAC, the Nanjing MAC, the Chengdu MAC and others have organized and established their brigade-level army aviation combat units.
