First book on Taiwan's modern military history published

Beijing, June 14 (ChinaMil) -- The book entitled The 50 Years' Military History of Taiwan Region (1949-2006), a key military scientific research subject of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), was recently published by the PLA Publishing House.

The book was completed by a research subject group led by Jiang Tingyu, an expert in military history, and composed of experts from the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution and related departments of the General Staff Headquarters (GSH) of the PLA.

The 50 Years' Military History of Taiwan Region is the first book of China's mainland that is devoted to a comprehensive and systematic study of Taiwan's modern military history. It has systematically studied Taiwan's military history from 1949 to 2006, analyzed in depth Taiwan's military conditions and characteristics in different historical periods, and discussed Taiwan's development in past 50-odd years in such fields as military strategy, establishment and system, military training, deployment of troops, military science and technology, weaponry and equipment, academic education, political warfare work, war mobilization and foreign military cooperation.
