BEIJING, May 14, (ChinaMil) -- The "Zhenjiang" guided missile frigate of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), China's first-generation guided missile frigate which was named after Zhenjiang city in east China's Jiangsu province by the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People's Republic of China (PRC), was officially decommissioned after serving in the East China Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy for 35 years.
As a main combat vessel of the PLA Navy and China's first-generation guided missile frigate, the "Zhenjiang" ship has played a positive role in offshore defense and trained a large number of top-notch talents for the PLA Navy.
In February 1953, Chairman Mao Zedong personally inspected the "Luoyang" ship, predecessor of the "Zhenjiang" ship, took a brush and wrote an inscription, saying "In order to oppose imperialist aggression, we must build a powerful navy."
