Qi Jianguo holds talks with Swedish chief of defense staff

BEIJING, April 16 (ChinaMil) -- Qi Jianguo, deputy chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks with Jan Salestrand, the visiting Swedish chief of defense staff, on April 15, 2013 in Beijing.

Qi Jianguo noted that China-Sweden relations have undergone steady development since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1950, as evidenced by increasingly enhanced mutual political trust. The smooth development of the relations between the two countries has laid a firm foundation for the friendly cooperation between the two militaries.

In recent years, the relations between the two militaries have been maintaining a good momentum of development, as evidenced by frequent high-level contacts and fruitful exchanges and cooperation in various fields. The Chinese side attaches importance to the mutual beneficial, friendly and cooperative relations with the Swedish side, and is willing to make joint efforts with the Swedish side to constantly promote the relations between the two countries and the two militaries to a new high.

Salestrand said that Sweden attaches importance to the development of its friendly relations with China and the Swedish military hopes to work together with the Chinese military to seek closer pragmatic cooperation in such fields as peacekeeping exchanges and personnel training, so as to make contributions to maintaining world peace and stability.
