Former KMT soldiers justified as martyrs in China

5 former Kuomintang (KMT) soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression were recently approved to be martyrs, according to the news posted on the official website of the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government.

The posted news released that the five comrades from Shaanxi province, namely, Xu Zhibang of Shangzhou District of Shangluo City, Hao Xingsi of Luonan County, Ren Bingyang of Shangnan County, Wu Zongshu and Wang Jiaqiang of Zhashui County, serving originally as the private first class (PFC) in the 3rd Battalion,the 1059th Regiment, 530th Brigade, 177th Division, 96th Army, 4th Army Group of the KMT Army, sacrificed themselves in the anti-Japanese battles at the Zhongtiao Mountains in Xizheng village, Hongchi Township, Pinglu County in Shanxi province on January 23, 1939.

In accordance with the regulations of the Notice on Posthumously Admitting KMT Members and Other Patriotic Individuals Who Sacrificed Themselves in the Revolution of 1911, the Northern Expedition and the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression as Revolutionary Martyrs (Min[1983] You No.46) issued by the Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA) of the People's Republic of China (PRC), Comrades Xu Zhibang, Hao Xingsi, Ren Bingyang, Wu Zongshu and Wang Jiaqiang were approved as martyrs. According to the regulations, their family dependents will enjoy the benefits of family dependents of martyrs instead of a one-time pension.
