Several new-type fighters of an aviation division of the air force under the Nanjing Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) took off on January 28 from two different airports to engage in intense confrontation against each other.

Jing Jianfeng, the division commander, told reporters that: "The confrontation air combat training of the entire division this year sees a 30% year-on-year increase."

According to officers of the control tower, the confrontation air combat training nowadays is "free air combat" without limited altitude difference, which will test not only the technical and tactical levels but also the psychological quality of the pilots.

It is learned that the division is also constantly tempering the troop units on such combat capabilities as air intercepting, anti-ground penetration defense, and so on.
