BEIJING, Jan. 15 -- A mainland spokesman said on Wednesday that there will be "no way out" for "Taiwan independence" as espoused by the island's opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
The DPP's stance on "one country on each side" and "Taiwan independence" is the crucial obstacle to normal communication across the Taiwan Strait, said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference.
Ma was asked to respond to a DPP report on its mainland policy and recent remarks by DPP Chairman Su Tseng-chang.
"The 'old shoes' of 'Taiwan independence' will not walk a new path in cross-Strait relations," Ma said.
