MACAO, Nov. 4 -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang on Monday met with Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chui Sai On here and hailed the widely acknowledged success in implementing the "one country, two system" policy since Macao returned to the motherland 14 years ago.
Speaking highly of the SAR government's work, Wang said the central government has approved the building of a new land passage between Macao and Guangdong province and agreed in principle that Macao hosts the tourism ministers' meeting of the Asia-Pacific Cooperation next year.
The Macao SAR government should do everything possible to do the two major jobs well, said Wang, who is here to attend the Fourth Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries.
Wang said Macao is at the crucial stag of development and it is imperative that the SAR government continue to promote economic development in an appropriate and diversified manner while deepening economic cooperation between Macao and the hinterland.
He also encouraged the SAR government to take full advantage of the forum to forge closer economic ties with the Portuguese- speaking countries to lift Macao's economic development to a new level.
