FUZHOU, Oct. 28 -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang has called for economic cooperation between the mainland and Taiwan to be pushed to a new level by integrating the mainland's market and cost advantage with Taiwan's technology strengths.
Wang made the remarks during his visit to the city of Zhangzhou and Pingtan County in southeast China's Fujian Province from Sunday to Monday, noting that there is huge potential for cross-Strait economic cooperation. ' Wang toured a Taiwanese-invested biotech company and a modern agricultural exhibition area in Zhangzhou City, saying that the mainland welcomes agriculturists and entrepreneurs from Taiwan to invest in the mainland in order to seek common development.
He expressed the hope that the mainland-Taiwan cooperation will help enhance the mainland's research and development capacity and benefit its modernization drive in agriculture.
The vice premier also visited a passenger terminal and retail trade market in Pingtan County, calling for enhanced infrastructure construction to deepen cross-Strait economic ties.
Pingtan, which is the mainland's fifth-largest island and the closest one to Taiwan, serves as a pilot hotspot for the mainland-Taiwan exchange.
