BEIJING, Oct. 9 -- Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Wednesday met with a visiting delegation of Chinese ethnic minorities in Beijing, urging the group to contribute more to boosting national unity.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said the visit gave citizens from ethic minority groups opportunities to witness the dramatic changes that have occurred in the country and helped them enhance their sense of national identity.
The delegation consists of role models who have been recognized for their contributions to national unity and prosperity across the country.
Yu called on the group to continue playing a role in implementing the authority's ethnic policies, upholding the system of regional national autonomy and building a moderately prosperous society.
He also urged efforts to increase exchanges between different nationalities in order to safeguard national unity and social stability.
