The China Islamic Association celebrated its 60th anniversary on Friday in Beijing.
Top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng said at the ceremony in the Great Hall of People that the association has all along been patriotic, and helped the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the government implement freedom of religious belief.
The association has made positive contributions to ethnic solidarity, social stability and national reunification, added Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference,
He expressed hope that Muslims would carry on their fine traditions and make new contributions to prosperity and the people's well-being.
Liu Yandong, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice premier, said at the ceremony that she hoped the Islamic association could link Muslims with the CPC and the government, promote ethnic solidarity and social stability.
Liu also called on Muslims to rally behind the CPC and the government and contribute to building a moderately prosperous society and realizing the "Chinese dream."
Other senior officials and representatives from other religious institutions also attended the ceremony.
