BEIJING, Aug. 8 -- The "Chinese dream" embodies the common aspiration of other countries and peoples in the world as it highlights peace, development and mutually beneficial cooperation, a senior Chinese analyst said Thursday.
Li Wuwei, vice president of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament, made the comments in a keynote address at an international conference on arms control and strategic stability that opened in Beijing.
The 71-year-old gave his views on the "Chinese dream," a concept that has been brought to prominence by Chinese President Xi Jinping and is becoming a much-discussed topic both at home and abroad.
Li said the revival of the Chinese nation is the great dream of all its people, calling the "Chinese dream" a culmination of the traditional Chinese philosophy of "dedicating oneself to the well-being of the family, country and the world."
The "Chinese dream" is also a new, important concept that China shares globally with the "Harmonious World", he said.
According to Li, China will advance unswervingly along the path of peaceful development, and dedicate itself in promoting development in an open, cooperative, and mutually beneficial manner.
He noted that China had been a historic victim of wars and aggressions, and therefore the Chinese people cherish peace.
Moreover, the pursuit of peace is deeply rooted in Chinese tradition and culture and its people do not want military expansion, the analyst said.
Sponsored by the the Beijing-based China Arms Control and Disarmament Association, the two-day conference will be attended by experts from a number of countries, including China, the United States, Australia, Russia, and officials from the European Union, as well as international organizations and think-tanks.
