HONG KONG, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong's Chief Executive CY Leung expressed his condolences to the families of the Hong Kong tourists killed in a hot-air balloon accident in Egypt on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media, Leung said he has instructed government departments to liaise with the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong and the Chinese embassy in Egypt over the incident.
Immigration Department officers will also be sent to Egypt.
Although the travel agency involved and the Chinese embassy in Egypt have released information on the accident, Leung said he did not yet have details and the government will brief the public when it fully understands the situation.
He said the Chinese Embassy in Egypt has set up a four-member team headed by the ambassador, and activated the emergency response mechanism to handle the situation.
Leung added the government has contacted the deceased's relatives to help them.
Nine tourists from China's Hong Kong were killed in a balloon crash Tuesday morning in Egypt's Luxor governorate, according to media reports.
