Dr. Jin Xueshu, female founding member of the People's Daily and China's first media professional to receive the "National March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetters" award — the highest honor for Chinese career women, died of illness yesterday in Beijing at the age of 92.
In an obituary issued by the People's Daily, Dr. Jin was extolled as an excellent member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and an outstanding professional in journalism of the country.
Lauded as a prime example of the outstanding modern Chinese woman by the founding editor-in-chief and president of the People's Daily Deng Tuo, Dr. Jin was among China's first women to be conferred the title of "National March 8th Red-Banner Pacesetters" in 1960, the highest honor for Chinese professional women. She was the first woman in journalism industry to receive the honor.
