Jiuquan to hold traditional ethnic games

The 7th Jiuquan City Traditional Ethnic Games will be held Aug 8-12 in Guazhou county, Gansu province.

More than 350 athletes from seven counties and districts of the city will take part in 49 competitions, including ethnic style wresting, martial arts, archery, tug of war, and equestrian and camel races.

Other cultural events such as a calligraphy arts festival, a melon festival, and cultural and tourism promotion and calligraphy works exhibition will also take place.

Jiuquan's 50,000 ethnic residents account for 5 percent of its population. About half of the ethnic population lives in Guazhou county.
