Chinese mainland actress Zhao Wei was invited to an event in Hong Kong on Monday (July 1) to celebrate the 16th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China.

Rumors suggest that the actress has applied to become a Hong Kong resident via the city's Quality Migrant Admission Scheme, and that she decided to do so for her 3-year-old daughter, who could then receive education in Hong Kong.

Rumors also say that Zhao's businessman husband Huang Youlong has purchased a luxurious house in Hong Kong for the family's planned relocation.

Zhao Wei refused to comment on the rumors on Monday.

The 37-year-old actress is one of the most popular faces in Chinese cinema, and her notable films include "Painted Skin" and "14 Blades".

Zhao's directorial debut "So Young", released in April this year, is now among the top 10 highest-grossing Chinese films of all time.
